Descripción: The Intourist Hotel, one of the first hotels of Intourist was built to the design of the noted Soviet architect Alexei Shchusev in 1934. The year 1988 saw its second birth. The restorers, having preserved the outward appearance of the hotel and all of its distinct architectural elements, have renovated the building and improved its comforts, and now the "old Intourist", as the hotel is popularly known in Baku, has once again become one of the best hotels in town. The compact 5-storey building of the hotel, which has 124 beds, is located in the very center of the city in Prospekt Neftyannikov (Oilmen's Avenue), one of the most beautiful avenues in Baku, which is named in honor of those who are engaged in oil production and refining.
The hotel affords a beautiful view of the city and the Baku Bay of the Caspian Sea. In front of the hotel is a shadowy public garden with tables for those who would like to sit for a while in the open air, while sipping at a glass of cool and fresh fruit juice, and across the street is the Primorsky (Seaside) Park with numerous summer restaurants, cafes and amusements, a cinema, an exhibition hall, and famous "Baku's Venice". Located not far from the hotel is the Sports Palace of Hand Games.
The hotel has 64 single and twin-bedded rooms with private bath. Its small and comfortable lobby, where there is always peace and quiet, houses the front desks and the service bureau. The service bureau's personnel, who speak English, French and German, provide tourists with air and rail tickets, order cars for them, sell them tickets for the theatre and offer them various tours across the Republic. Here you will also find a newsstand, a souvenir kiosk, a post, telegraph and telephone office, a currency exchange desk, a beauty and barbershop. In the lounge on the first floor there is a comfortable bar where you may have a cup of fragrant coffee.
The interiors of the hotel are decorated with stucco molding, ceramics and chased metal featuring Azerbaijan national motifs. The hotel's pride is its smaller banquet hall with seats for 40 people, known as the Oriental Room. Its ceiling and walls are decorated with stucco molding and gilt in the style of ancient Azerbaijan miniature painting.
On entering this room, you find yourself in the fairy-tale atmosphere of the Old Orient. In the Oriental room, the tasting of Azerbaijan tea and national sweets is arranged. The hotel's bar, which is in the basement, is also distinguished by exquisite decor.
The restaurant and its banquet hall, noted for an excellent quality of food, feature Azerbaijan and European cuisine and various house specialties. An orchestra playing Azerbaijan folk tunes and modern Soviet and foreign pop music provides nightly entertainment. Here you may also order lunch or dinner to be served in your room. There is a comfortable conference hall on the first floor where various meetings and round-table discussions, press conferences, and showings of travel films are arranged.
A distinctive feature of the hotel is its Oriental sauna with onion domes, built in the inner courtyard of the hotel in the style of old Azerbaijan architecture. The sauna, which has a capacity for 12 people, is connected with the main building by a heated passageway. In its lounge, which has a bar, each customer is served with an individual samovar. The sauna and swimming pool are open daily from 8.00 to 22.00.
The personnel of the hotel, whose motto is comfort and hospitality, will be happy to comply with all your requests.
Welcome to Baku and have a pleasant stay at the Intourist Hotel!
